Hello in August
It is now late August and I am trying out my new computer, my old one was very noisy and slow! so hi to everyone! and hopefully I can give more time to my paintings and my blog. I have not been idle, just sick and it has not helped my Chronic fatigue syndrome at all, I have found energy to do a little work in my art journal with Inktence pencils and sticks, they are easy to set up than paints, along with some projects with Mountains and Rivers group, they have a weekend away in October, or you can attend a workshop on the Saturday or Sunday if you wish. We have six workshops with six lovely projects to choose from. Click to see the blog
As soon as I get this computer up and going I will show some more paintings, at least now i can make sure that i add more blog posts on a regular pace, hope you are all still looking. We are also having a compertition with Mountains and Rivers group so check back later to their blog to find more info.
Talk again soon, thanks for using my blog! Lyn.

New painting
This folk art pattern is from a collection by Denise Shulik, and at the Mountains and Rivers meeting on Saturday Denise taught this piece to twenty four ladies, It was a light piece to paint achievable in the 3-4 hours that we have at the meeting. See Mountains and Rivers blog to see what is happening within the painting group. www.mountainsandriversfdp.blogspot.com
The painting below is painted by me, I painted this on a canvas 35cm x 45cm.

Latest painting, Mixed media.
Hi Everyone!
Saturday I chose a mixed media painting by Josephine Louwen, Josephine is one of our Mountains and Rivers Folk Art teachers, an excellent teacher with many years experience.
This "Zentangle" is painted by me from a design by Josephine Louwen.
Josephine can be contacted through Mountains and Rivers.
Since painting this I have looked into the pen work on the circle. Some call it "Zentangle" others doodling. Doodling - meaning is; Doodling - present participle of doo-dle (verb) = 1. Scribble absentmindedly.
If you Google search ' doodle you find that the work is often drawn absentmindedly with no real form, often filling the page.
While searching "Zentangle" they start by drawing what they call a 'string' and forming a shape with this drawn 'string they then draw a selection of patterns inside this 'string'
"Zentangle" is a trade mark of an internet company that sell books and patterns.
In the last couple of days I have trying out some dooling/tangling (what ever you would like to call it) of my own, it is quite easy to do, and it grows on you!
These by the way were drawn on lined paper out of an exercise book with a double sided "sharpie" pen. The trouble I had is that the pen bleed through to the next page, so either put a piece of card under the page or better still draw on a sketch book or some thicker paper. Look out for some mixed media paintings using some tangles within the painting. Do try it and Have fun!

Retirement, but not for this blog.
It is with sad news that I announced that our free Thursday group has now closed. We are going to get together for Lunch or morning teas from time to time as the friendships with these ladies have been very special and they are worth a lifetime friendship's. Thank you ladies for the last 6 years of sharing painting and friendships within the lovely setting of the Fairfield Museum and Gallery. I have been teaching thirteen years, since 2000 and it is time to have a rest. I do hope that you continue to paint, I know I will and will continue to post my paintings on my blog, with much love, Lyn.
Due to my health I have to let some things go and rest more. My body has been telling me that my ME/CFS has been stirred, there are no more days where I feel good, i have a lot of pain of late, if i went on much longer like this it would lead to a relapse.
I will still continue this Blog as I need to keep some things going in my life, as well as I can enjoy sharing my work with you all, so drop in often as hopefully I can share with you more often than I have been doing.
I will also continue with the Mountains and Rivers Folk and Decorative Painters group as the meet only five times a year. Also I will continue to be the Publicity officer as most of this work can be done on the computer. I also run a blog for Mountains and Rivers, check it out; www.mountainsandriversfdp.blogspot.com

Painting Convention 2012
Last weekend I was at Nelson Bay attending a Painting Convention with Mountains and Rivers Painting group. We stayed at the Marina Resort in Nelson Bay, a lovely Motel with views from most rooms looking towards the harbour.
The fellowship was great, we painted three projects from a variety of really good subjects through out the weekend. We also had a mini market on Friday night with wine and cheese. Saturday we had our night out with dress up's, all Sun, Surf and Sand, with plenty of prizes for the winning entries.
More Photographs can be found on the Mountains and Rivers Blogpage.

2 Hours!
We spent an afternoon at Mountains and Rivers meeting and a two hour painting workshop with Christine Whipper. With some homework (background and leaves) we were able to complete the project shown.
It was a beautiful project to paint and with step by step demonstrations everyone had good results.
This is a close up of the painting above. Our next meeting we are painting a lovely goldfish with an intresting background.

Memory Boxes Needed.
It is getting harder to find anyone to cut out our Folk Art work. We are esspecialy running out of craftwood boxes for the Mountains and Rivers Memory Box Programme, if any one can make us A4 size boxes for this worthwhile programme we would be greatfull. Please contact Merriel; mountains2rivers@gmail.com
Memory Box Programme
We are a non-profit organisation, involved in the Memory Box Programme, where our members paint memory boxes to be presented to parents who have lost a child at birth, we support local hospitals including; Nepean, Katoomba, Dubbo, Mudgee and Northwest Hospitals.
We also paint smaller boxes to contain the jewellery of patients who pass away in the Emergency and Cancer wards of; Nepean, Dubbo, Mudgee, Camdon and Gulgong Hospitals.
This piece was in the Penrith Press in August 2009.
Memory boxes are offering grieving loved ones a light to shine through their darkest days.
Started a decade ago by the Mountains and Rivers Folk & Decorative Painters Inc, the project hands over beautifully painted boxes to families who have lost loved ones in hospitals.
"People can put a certificate, lock of hair, a footprint of their child, a wrist band or whatever they care to keep" association spokeswomen Laraine Palmer said.
"When we began the project 10 years ago, we used to see hospitals give the deceased's possessions in a bag, which did not look nice. This box and it's possessions provide tangible proof of that childs existence and can help with the grieving process."
Mrs Palmer said the assocation supplied the boxes to Nepean, Katoomba and Dubbo Hospitals.
"The boxes are presented to the parents of a child who has passed away at birth or shortly thereafter so they can keep their memories of their child in it" she said.
"We don't charge for the boxes and parents can choose what they like,"
Boxes are bought by the group and given to a team of volunteers for painting every May.
Merriel Adair co-ordinates where boxes go depending on the requirements.

We had a great time on Saturday at the Rivers & Mountains meeting, our guest teacher was Janice McCurrie, we painted a small scene by Janice who let us all through a free hand painting class. It was a quick lesson, and a worth while one. After looking around the finished pieces, they all looked different; we all put our own style into the picture. Thankyou Janice for a joyfull workshop.
I have posted some of the photo's I took during the class and after.

Our next meeting will be on the 14th November, the last one for the year. We will be making three Christmas cards with Susan Wynn. We will be using paper craft for this project, the cards are very different from the traditional Christmas theme, and should appeal to all age groups.

Painting at Turners Vineyard
Recouping after a hectic but Fab weekend at the Mountain & Rivers yearly painting convention!
We arrived late morning on Friday, after settling in we headed off to a lovely lunch in the Vines dineing room before makeing our way to the convention centre a short walk away, but up a steep hill!
plenty of room for all the workshops, great facilities.
We spent the next Three hours in our workshop, and finished off our project!
With time to relax before dinner in the Vines dineing room, followed by a wine & cheese night with mini market, great goodies to buy! Meet and talk with other painters, about 40 in all.
Food at the vines is realy something, it may have looked like ordanary sandwiches and fruit, but the tastes were exceptional, and the morning and afternoon teas that were freshly made on the premises coud not be better!

Next day more workshops!
After a lovely relaxing breakfast of Musuli, youghurt and fresh fruit salad, (amazing variety of hot food also available) coffee and toast on a Saturday morning, we were off up the hill again to start a 6 hour workshop, once again we finnished off our project in good time, with stops for morning & afternoon tea, and lunch in the vines dineing room.Food at the vines is realy something, it may have looked like ordanary sandwiches and fruit, but the tastes were exceptional, and the morning and afternoon teas that were freshly made on the premises coud not be better!
This evening we were off to our Oriental Oddsey at the Restarant down the hill. What a fun night we had! Some ladies went all out in dressing up for the fancy dress, we had a varity of costumes from fun to the elegant. Rob went as a Ninger, Barbara went as a Ninger's Moll, Robyn was a Geasure girl, Natisha in Traditional Mongolian dress, Annie in Triditional viatenam dress, & myself, well just say in normal dress, with chopsticks in my hair! I am not sure if anyone took a photo of me!
By Sunday we were all tired, but had a lovely relaxing workshop for 4 hours, again a finished piece! We all shared another lovely lunch of soup, followed by quiche, cold meats & salad. Last of our presentations, goodby's and we were on the way home.
Would I go next year? You Bet!!!

Drawing lesson
Had a lovely time yesterday at Penrith, with Rivers & Mountains group, we had a lesson on learning to draw with Chris Roy.
This is my attempt at drawing, improvement needed!
Chris is a very talented Lady, and we all enjoyed her lesson. Chris privided us with plenty of subject matter, grouped it together for us and guided us through the process of drawing the basic lines and shapes to get us started.
Also on display were the 2010 Convention pieces, we have a lovely choice of talented teachers as usual, looking forward to going to convention for the first time, just hope I will not be too tired to enjoy all the projects. They have a great time all through the weekend.
If you paint or even would like to learn pop in to see us sometime at the Mountain & Rivers, we have 98 members, usualy only 20-30 members turn up at our meetings, so it is a nice crowd and very friendly. We even have some members who live in the country areas and attend meetings. Click on Mountains and Rivers just under the sunflowers to see more about joining.
Have fun! lyn.
